Favorite Fish Cookbook

We have decided that our favorite fish cookbook for salmon and halibut is "The Best of the Best of Alaska Cookbook". Everything we have tried we like. Admittedly, the recipes are previewed for ingredients and judicious substitutions are made. Green onion has been known to become powdered onion.

We have been using the grill to keep the calories down and so all the recipes with mayonnaise just sit in the book. I think the two favorites are Teriyaki Halibut and Salmon Marinade.

Since, it isn't just a fish cookbook, I should probably try something else in it. Of course, that would be unfair to all of the cook books, I haven't tried a recipe out of.

Dyeing

Recently, I attended a dyeing workshop and had a great time. It was sponsored by the Knitting Guild of Denver and held at Tactile. We used worsted weight Bare from Knit Picks. I chose to do two skeins, figuring if I was doing one why not two.

The dyes used were Wilton Icing Dyes and they were set with vinegar. Just as a note, the color on the bottle top is not necessarily what you get. Both of the skeins I did reminded people of Florida. For the first one, I picked Christmas red, turquoise blue, and a yellow. For the second one, I just used what was left in my bottles and borrowed some purple and green. So, yes the salmon pink is really Christmas red. It is a bit brighter in person than in the pictures.

Daylight Savings

Does anyone else have as much problem with this as I do? I mean really the date keeps getting earlier and earlier. The first date move didn't save any energy. Instead then we upped our usage. So, how does this make sense? I know why it doesn't.
- More jobs have flexible hours than in the past.
- More people work a compressed work week than in the past.
- More business stay open until after dark now.
- I don't deal with it well and neither does my computer clock.

Let's just go back to the old date changes or better yet get rid of daylight savings time.

O.K. I will get off of my soap box now.

Alpaca Tweed

It is dry and being added to my yarn stash now. I bought the roving at the Aplaca show in September. It was three ounces of three colors. I believe it was the combination of three animals, white, liver, and black. I wanted a two ply but didn't want to play the game of trying to spin the exact same amount on to two bobbins. So, after spinning it I used my ball winder to get a center pull ball. Then I plied using both ends. There was some tangling but I only ended up with one loop blip. It is small and I saw it when putting the yarn in a skein.

The end result is a loose 2 ply sport weight. My count might not be accurate but I think I have 386 yards.
